Cross Country Prepares for WSC Preview Meet
LA Mission’s cross country team is coming off two great performances at the SoCal Preview Meet in Cerritos on Sept. 14 and the Golden West Invitational in Huntington Beach on Sept. 21.
Freshman standout Paola Rojas continues to break personal records with each race she runs and is a strong lead runner for the Eagles. She is joined by fellow freshman standout Ruth Cobieya, who came across the line first for LAMC in Cerritos.
Nataly Galicia continues the line of freshmen leading the charge for the Eagles, while the sophomores add strong points right behind with returning runners Samantha Ochoa and Melissa Mejorada, both on a quick recovery from training injuries. Team captain Suzette Sanchez and newest addition Ashley Beltran complete the Eagles lineup, both contributing to Mission’s 8th-place finish in Huntington Beach.
The Eagles finished with an average time of 24:13.35 at the SoCal Preview Meet and 25:02.33 at Golden West.
This week, the team returns to the Central Coast to compete at Cuesta College’s Fairbanks Course in San Luis Obispo for the Western State Conference Preview.
Head Coach Julia Pickslay says the team is “ready to roll” and plans on seeing the Eagles finish in the top end of the field.
“We’ve got our sights set on a couple of teams to focus on this week and some individual strategies to get the ladies to the finishes they’ve been training so hard for,” Pickslay said.
The Eagles’ race begins at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28.
