Eagles Finish 4th in Tour de Cuesta
Women's Cross Country showed consistency in its performance at the Tour de Cuesta in San Luis Obispo on Friday, Oct. 6.
While no Eagles achieved any PRs in the competition, the group put up solid times and placed 4th out of 7 teams.
The race was an unusual one for a cross country meet. The host offered prizes to the runners who reached the 1st and 2nd mile markers quickest, which led to a fast start that many couldn't sustain for the duration of the course. However, the Eagles paced themselves well among their competitors, which included three Western State Conference rivals.
Natascha Klein was Mission's top performer of the day, finishing her 5K in 22:05.4 with an average mile time of 7:06.6. Her results placed her 12th out of 48 runners.
Head Coach Florence Edi said the team's performances over the last two weeks have shown their improvement and readiness for the upcoming Western State Championship meet. She also said the Tour de Cuesta was a great bonding experience for the team, as it was their first road trip together. Overall, the Eagles are in the right mindset to compete and hopefully advance to Southern California championships.
Mission was scheduled to compete in the San Bernardino Invitational on Friday, Oct. 13, but it has been canceled due to the fires in the area. Unless another event is added in its place, the Eagles will next compete in the Western State Championship Meet in Bakersfield on Friday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m.
