Cross Country places 5th in WSC Preview Meet
The Eagles braved the heat and the hills and proved their readiness to compete by placing 5th out of 13 teams represented at the Western State Conference Preview meet Friday in San Dimas.
The hot temperatures definitely affected the performance of all athletes present. The times weren't the fastest the Eagles have produced so far; however, our athletes were tenacious in their effort to stay close together during the race. This made a difference in the end.
Natascha Klein was the first of Mission’s six finishers, crossing the finish line 17th out of 79 runners with a time of 21:59. She was followed by Jessica Garibay, 28th place at 23:52; Kimberly Mejorada, 38th place at 25:10; Melissa Mejorada, 42nd place at 25:39; and Angel Blaque, 49th place at 27:05.
"I am very pleased with the efforts the girls put into the race today,” Head Coach Florence Edi said. “They attacked the hills in the third mile, and that turned the tide in our favor. This 5th-place finish is a much needed validation for these new athletes."
Cross Country has been looking forward to this conference preview meet and the results shows that their hard work and dedication is paying off.
Your Eagles are back in action Friday, Oct. 6, at the Tour de Cuesta in San Luis Obispo at 3 p.m.
