In the final home match of the season, the Eagles celebrated their sophomores and battled against a highly ranked College of the Canyons volleyball team.
Libero Samantha Sullivan, opposite hitter Rachelle Zelada, and outside hitters Zoe Baer, Samantha Sedano, and Denise Torres were all honored for their hard work and dedication over the last two years before the start of the game.
"I'm really proud of how hard these ladies have worked during their time here, showing up to practices, weights, and getting it done in the classroom as well. It's not easy to be a student-athlete; it's a serious commitment and we're all grateful for everything they've contributed to this program," said Head Coach Richard Barraza.
LAMC came into the match as the underdogs against the COC Cougars, who are currently ranked 3rd in the state.
All of the energy brought by the festivities and the crowd worked in the Eagles favor early as they had all the momentum to start the set and they held the lead all the way into the 18th point.
During this time they even had the highlight play of the match on a tight dig to the net which setter Noemi Campos saved by firing a quick set from distance to middle blocker Alexis Hernandez, who swung for an impressive kill that brought the crowd to its feet.
Unfortunately for Mission, the Cougars played some impressive volleyball and fought their way back into the game and won the match in 3 straight sets.
The loss didn't dampen the spirits of those in attendance, and the Eagles still have two competitions left in the season.
They will be back on the road Wednesday to play at West LA College at 6 p.m.
Congratulations and thank you to all of the of the sophomores on this team for two great years.
