LA Mission Cruises Past Antelope Valley with 7-2 Victory
Lancaster, CA – The LA Mission College women’s tennis team started off its conference play with a 7-2 road victory over Antelope Valley College on Tuesday. The Eagles dominated singles action, winning five of six matches, while also securing two important doubles victories to claim the overall win.
Doubles Play Puts LAMC Ahead Early
LA Mission took an early 2-1 lead after doubles, setting the tone for a strong performance.
- Genesis Nochez and Jaelyn Rivera earned a solid 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles over A. Coons and A. Valiente.
- Caitlin Nycum and Alitzel Ortega Partida followed with another 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles against G. Reyes Arias and I. Ortiz.
- Antelope Valley salvaged a point at No. 3 doubles, where D. Henriquez and M. Gross Solomon edged out Dayana Albizures and Kirsten Bonzon in a 9-7 tiebreak battle.
Dominant Singles Play Secures the Victory
The Eagles took complete control in singles play, winning five of the six matches in straight sets.
- No. 1 Singles: Jaelyn Rivera was dominant, defeating A. Valiente 6-1, 6-0.
- No. 2 Singles: Genesis Nochez kept the momentum going, winning 6-3, 6-2 against I. Ortiz.
- No. 4 Singles: Alitzel Ortega Partida was in complete control, defeating G. Reyes Arias 6-0, 6-4.
- No. 5 Singles: Caitlin Nycum rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over M. Gross Solomon.
- No. 6 Singles: Dayana Albizures closed out the match with a hard-fought 7-5, 6-0 win over D. Henriquez.
- The only singles loss for LA Mission came at No. 3, where A. Coons defeated Kirsten Bonzon 6-3, 6-0.
A Strong Start to Conference Play
With the 7-2 victory, LA Mission kicks off its conference schedule with confidence, showing depth and strength in both singles and doubles. The team's ability to bounce back from close doubles losses and dominate in singles was a key takeaway.
Head coach Joe Cascione was pleased with the performance, stating: "This was a great team win. We competed well in doubles, and our singles players showed great focus. Winning on the road is always tough, and this was a big step for us in conference play."
