Soccer Falls to Moorpark, 2-1
Men’s Soccer suffered a close loss on Halloween, falling to Moorpark 2-1 at home.
Moorpark, ranked 5th in the division, tied Mission 1-1 in their first conference matchup on Oct. 13. The Eagles were looking to come out stronger in the next contest and earn their first conference win.
The two teams were evenly matched, neither of them able to produce a goal for a good chunk of the game. The Eagles were unrelenting until the last minute of the first half, when the Raiders scored with 17 seconds remaining.
The same player would shoot another goal for Moorpark late in the 2nd half despite Mission’s defensive work. With a 2-0 deficit after 76 minutes, the Eagles were able to score one goal in retaliation on freshman Jesus Farias’s unassisted 90th-minute shot.
Goalie Angel Noriega played all 90 minutes, with 5 saves and 2 goals allowed.
Associate Head Coach Alberto Rosas said the team played extremely well, but just couldn’t catch a break at the net.
“It’s difficult when your team dominates the game and doesn’t get the result you’re looking for,” Rosas said. “But that’s part of the game, and there’s only so much we can control with what happens inside the field. The boys are playing hard and doing everything they can, and that’s all we can ask for.”
Soccer plays next on Friday, Nov. 3, at Santa Barbara at 1 p.m.
