L.A. Mission baseball wins a best-of-three series to beat No. 9 seed Palomar College in the CCCAA Regionals State Championship.
The Eagles took game one 6-3 with an outstanding pitching performace by sophomore, Anthony Donatella (7-3). Donatella went the full nine innings allowing three runs on seven hits, keeping Comet hitters completely off balanced.
Josh Carlin set the table for the Eagle offense with a 3-5 effort at the plate. Sam Gray had two hits and three RBIs to put the Eagles on top early. Robert Reeves, Tyler Grissom, Alex Devito, Ryan Galan, Peter Abinanti, and Victor Gonzalez each contributed with hits.
In game two, Palomar came back with a 13-6 victory over Mission.
Eagles offense did not shut down though. Grissom went 3-4 with two doubles, Gray was 2-4 with four RBIs, and Cade Spurlin homered.
The Comets scored their thirteen runs off nineteen hits, facing six different Eagle pitchers.
The 'if necessary' game three belonged entirely to the Eagles, with a 6-0 regional clinching win.
Another tremendous pitching performance by Gonzalo Rios (9-3), held Comet hitters to just eight hits while striking out nine.
Misson tallied their six runs on nine hits. Devito, Grissom, Reeves, and Spurlin each with RBIs to lift the Eagles.
Mission baseball advances to the Super Regionals and will face off against Long Beach City College.
